The climb up the five flights of stairs to our apartment was hard on my knees and by the time I reached the top I had to rest for a few minutes, gasping for my breath back before I continued to our apartment, unlocking the door and pushing it open. …But I was always able to buy Tarrlok as 37, so maybe I’m crazy?

But seriously this Amon/Noawhatever looks younger than Tarrlok to me!

I can’t find a single example of where Noatak looks older than Tarrlok, rather than the other way around.  A lot of things don’t jive about Tarrlok’s infodump flashback (poor pacing and storytelling aside); it’s almost as if he was making it up as he went, or was swapping his and Noatak’s roles back and forth throughout it in order to keep himself in a more sympathetic light

This was hands down the most aggravating part of Korra…

If they were smart they would make season two and three about how Amon’s defeat didn’t impact the revolution at all, because the oppression still exists. Korra should have lost (most of) her bending for more than a tenth of one episode so she could better understand the non-bender situation.

I’m thiiiiiis close to tumblr savior-ing everything Korra because the glow has long since worn off and the flaws are glaring at me. I kind of want to get ahold of the writers and shake them and then shove them in a class that would teach them how to build character arcs that matter and how to address the allegorical problems they’ve (unwittingly?) created. 

One of those problems, of course, is that non-bender oppression is never brought up outside the context of the Equalist-related paranoia that grips the city. The police are arresting and detailing non-bender civilians without due process in (a completely terrifying but sadly commonplace) response to a specific political threat? All right; I can handle this development. But why is the the oppression that non-benders contend with in everyday life never even brought up? Average non-benders are obviously denied certain jobs, they live in poor boroughs, they have little to no political representation (and when they do come forward the way oppressed people do—by rallying—they are arrested), they can’t join bending-specific gangs for protection, and they really can’t defend themselves if a fire bender wants to burn their faces off and steal their wallets (unless, of course, they’re trained chi-blockers, but I’m sure not everyone has access to that kind of training). The reason the Equalist movement gained such traction—or, one of the reasons, at least, because whatever his motivations, Amon was one hell of a charismatic leader—was because the non-benders had some legitimate complaints.

My headcanon’s been that part of the appeal of the Equalist movement was the access to chiblocking training one could gain by joining.

And I’ve always had this glaring question that was never answered: did ep. 4 imply that chiblocking was actually illegal?  Like, Tarrlok’s raid is specified as only to be against a chiblocking training camp.  They could’ve taken the chance to explicitly say it’s a camp training for an assassination or an attack or something conspicuously negative, but they don’t.  It’s just a raid against a chiblocking training camp…sorta implying that even chiblocking itself is illegal.  And it doesn’t help that it’s never specified if others besides Equalists learn chiblocking, or just to clarify whether chiblocking is illegal or not.
